Studio Moves to Lark Street, Albany

As much as we loved our last space we had to relocate due to water issues. Luckily we found a cool new space on the restaurant packed Lark Street in Center Square Albany. The best cappuccino right across the street at Stacks and yummy Chinese food next door at Rain, we’re here to...

New Work from a Busy Winter

It is hard to believe it is already Spring (especially since it is snowing). We had a busy winter creating numerous publications including, a sesquicentennial issue for Nobles, the March/April edition of BizEd celebrating 100 years of business school education, the spring issue of Pingree honoring a longtime faculty member, and an issue of UTjournal with special campaign coverage. We finalized the Noble and Greenough enrollment campaign with a yield piece complete with a guidebook, pencils, and stickers. And we’re excited to share other work still in development…to be...
Noble and Greenough School Enrollment Campaign Kicks Off

Noble and Greenough School Enrollment Campaign Kicks Off

Noble and Greenough School kicked off their enrollment season with a suite of materials we created with the Nobles Communications team lead by Heather Sullivan, Director of Communications; and Mark Sheehy Creative. Nobles is well known for it’s academic rigor and athletic excellence. But in order to create a successful enrollment campaign we knew we had to say more. We had to let prospective students see themselves as part of the Nobles community–a community where people were open to risk and accepting of each other’s differences. This became our inspiration for the final direction: This is My Nobles, Create Your Own Nobles. The end result is a suite of communications, including a responsive website with a conversational inquiry form and interactive print materials tied to a social media campaign. Each tells the story of the Nobles experience in a conversational engaging way....
Creating Award-winning Magazine Covers

Creating Award-winning Magazine Covers

At the 2015 CASE Editor’s Forum Magazine Exchange, two publications we art direct and design, Tufts Magazine, and Nobles, were quickly snatched up—a sign that points to their arresting covers. Both schools have intelligent, successful alumni and both need to compete to get their reader’s attention. But the visual direction for the covers was very different: one is an illustration we created, the other a photograph of an alumni (supplied by the subject—the beauty of having successful alumni, sometimes there is already an existing cover-worthy portrait). Along with catching people’s eye at the magazine exchange, the Tufts Magazine cover recently received an American Advertising Federation Gold Award while Nobles received a Silver award for magazine design (and a Circle of Excellence Silver award). What is the answer to creating arresting covers: Photography? Illustration? Type only? The answer is yes to all of these questions—if it is what your audience will engage with. It starts with an understanding of the magazine’s readers and the mission of the publication. And then a review of the issue’s content and a thoughtful collaboration between editor and art director. The end result is a cover that speaks to your...
