Touchstone Community School Rebrand and Admissions

A 21st-Century School

Touchstone is a private progressive school in Grafton, Massachusetts, founded in the 1970s by a group of parents. In 2009, they completed a comprehensive marketing initiative and found that their school provides an array of skills for students to succeed in the 21st century. But they were failing to communicate that message to current and prospective families.

Beginning with a full-day on-site meeting, we worked with our creative partner, Ellen Barnett, to better understand the community. We interviewed parents, teachers, and administrators to uncover the strengths and weaknesses of the school’s positioning.

We developed a creative strategy to align with the school’s business and marketing objectives. This document guided our development of a new identity, art-direction of photography, and creation of a viewbook and website.

After implementation of this new marketing initiative, the school saw the lowest attrition rate since the school was founded and twice the rate of inquiries compared with the previous year.
