Opened in 1997 by creative director Kelly McMurray, our firm (then known as “kellydesign, inc.”) initially focused on print design for publishing, higher education, and nonprofit organizations. Creative director Chris St. Cyr joined in 2003, and the firm was renamed 2COMMUNIQUÉ.
Kelly McMurray, Creative Director
Kelly creates intelligent designs that communicate in any medium.
She began her career as an editorial designer working on consumer
publications. She combines 15-plus
years of editorial experience with the latest interactive functionality to
create seamless cross-media solutions. Kelly has an MFA from Massachusetts
College of Art & Design. She has taught design
at the Art Institute of Boston, Massachusetts College of Art & Design, and
Metropolitan State College of Denver.
Chris St.Cyr, Creative Director
Chris’s work focuses on the usability of editorial content in digital media.
He has worked for publishing and web development companies, creating numerous
projects for a wide range of clients. He
has an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art & Design.
Chris is a faculty member in Graphic & Interactive Communication
at Ringling College of Art & Design. He has also taught
at Massachusetts College of Art & Design, the Art Institute of Boston, and the
University of Denver. His latest project is The
Design Shift, the Chronicle of Publication Culture.
Heather Clark, Designer
Heather Clark has a thorough knowledge of publication design and an amazing eye for detail. Prior to working with 2COMMUNIQUÉ, Clark worked for Suffolk University for 10 years in a range of capacities, including designing and art-directing publications, production management, and office management. Clark has designed and managed publications for Harvard University and Tufts University.
Amanda Lenz, Designer
Amanda treats every design as an opportunity for exploration, creating interesting visual solutions in any medium. Her illustrative style, love of typography, and inherent sense of publication can be seen in the work she created for Salt Bay Chamberfest and Point, The AIGA Colorado Education Journal.
James B. Moore, Designer
James has worked with 2COMMUNIQUÉ from the beginning of his career. He started
with us as a student, became an intern, then worked as a junior designer. He
currently has consultant status with our organization and works as a designer.
His contributions to the studio range from posters for Emerson to publications
for Tufts University. With his photography and design experience, he is able
to work successfully in many types of media, from the printed page to the 3-D
space.
Daniel Tideman, Designer
Daniel Tideman has nine years of award-winning experience shaping the look and brand of numerous print publications in a variety of fields and target markets. His work has included designing publications for B2B and B2C magazines in the health care, legal, and sports industries. Tideman works within the parameters of a publication’s design system and creates thoughtful, content-driven design. He took the redesign of Inside Counsel to new levels while always respecting the brand.
Kenneth R. Shaw, Motion Designer/Director
Ken has directed commercials, title sequences, and short films. His experience with the moving image comes from several years as a designer and animator for several broadcast design and post-production studios in Boston and New York City. He has worked almost every facet of production for the moving image, from writing and acting to cell animation.
Cheryl Della Pietra, Editor
Cheryl Della Pietra has been a copy editor for more than 15 years. She has worked as a freelancer for Us Weekly, Elle, and LIFE magazines and was the copy chief at Fast Company magazine. She has also worked on the websites for SmartMoney and IEEE Spectrum. For the past five years, she has been an instructor for the Media Bistro organization. Cheryl works on our print materials, including the 2COMMUNIQUÉ newsletter.
Lorenzo Emden, Web Developer
Lorenzo believes in strict separation of content, presentation, and user behavior to create websites that are easy to update, are SEO friendly, and perform consistently across browsers. He has extensive knowledge of XHTML, CSS, and WordPress and has worked with PHP, JavaScript, and Ajax. He recently worked with us on the relaunch of Shinn & Company’s website and our online publication TheDesignShift.com.
