Steven Rasmussen ’74 MMSc’77 MD’77, P’13MD’17, has deep roots at Brown, earning his undergraduate and medical degrees at the college, meeting his wife, becoming faculty, and his daughter following in his footsteps. To celebrate his 50th anniversary, now as chair of its Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, Medicine@Brown featured him in the Fall 2024 issue. “When I first decided to come back to academics, I looked at a half-dozen places on the East Coast: Yale was mostly concrete and the other places were, you know, 13 stories tall. The Butler Hospital grounds were planted by Frederick Law Olmsted. Maybe it was looking up at all those magnificent trees that sold me.” Editors: Kris Cambra and Phoebe Hall

“When she fainted Jennifer M. was in the Ft. Lauderdale airport…When she came to, in an
ambulance, she felt so much better that she thought she was high. ‘This is heaven,’ Jennifer told the paramedic. ‘What drug are you giving me?’ It was oxygen.” Jennifer was diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and referred to the Center for Advanced Lung Care and Corey E. Ventetuolo RES’07, MD, MS, an associate professor of medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School and a pulmonary and critical care physician specializing in PAH. Melissa Wells, from Bowdoin College, introduced us to @_hollystapleton_ in a recent issue of Bowdoin. We felt her painterly style and thoughtful approach would beautifully capture the essence of this story.
